Featured Reviews- May 2012:
Downham, Jenny. You against me When eighteen-year-old Mikey's younger sister claims to have been raped and he seeks to avenge the crime, he meets Ellie, the sister of the accused, and befriends her, complicating the situation considerably for all of them. (Kricket says: modern day star-crossed lovers! intense!)
Kraft, Erik. Miracle wimp Presents episodes from the high school life of Tom Mayo, a wisecracking misfit, who is trying to navigate his way through Wood Shop, dating, driving, and class tormentors. (Kricket says: a quick read full of laughs.)
Hale, Shannon. Book of a thousand days Fifteen-year-old Dashti, sworn to obey her sixteen-year-old mistress, the Lady Saren, shares Saren's years of punishment locked in a tower, then brings her safely to the lands of her true love, where both must hide who they are as they work as kitchen maids. (Kricket says: fantasy, adventure, romance, humor...I love this author!)
Anthony, Jessica and Rodrigo Corral. Chopsticks Told entirely with images, this is the story of Glory, a piano prodigy. Brilliant and lonely, Glory falls in love with Frank, who moves in next door, and is soon unable to play anything but the song "Chopsticks."(Kricket says: This is a bit of a different reading experience...see what you think!)
